AfroCROWD will join Wikimedians from all over the world at this year's Wikimania, being held for the first time in Cape Town, South Africa.
If you are at the conference, AfroCROWDers including our manager, Sherry Antoine, AfroCROWD UK leader, Kelly Foster, and AfroCROWD Los Angeles leader Kai Alexis Smith will present at different portions of the conference including at our presentation on AfroCROWD's work in the African Diaspora on Saturday, July 21st in the Esino Lario event space at the conference at noon. We are pleased to have AfroCROWDer and growing Wikipedia coach Linda Fletcher along with us over these next few days.
From the site: Wikimania is the annual conference celebrating all the free knowledge projects hosted by the Wikimedia Foundation - Commons, MediaWiki, Meta-Wiki, Wikibooks, Wikidata, Wikinews, Wikipedia, Wikiquote, Wikisource, Wikispecies, Wikiversity, Wikivoyage, and Wiktionary - with three days of conferences, discussions, meetups, training, and workshops. Hundreds of volunteers and Free Knowledge leaders from around the world gather to discuss issues, report on new projects and approaches, and exchange ideas.
The theme of Wikimania 2018 is "Bridging knowledge gaps: the Ubuntu way forward," with the aim of focusing on what and who is still missing from our sum of all human knowledge, and building shared strategies to bridge these collective gaps.
This year's Wikimania will be held at the Southern Sun Cape Sun Hotel in Cape Town, South Africa, from 18th July to 22nd July, 2018. All are welcome, whether you're an expert, enthusiast, beginner, or just curious!
We can't wait!! You can also check it out via the hashtags #Wikimania and #AfroCROWD over the coming days.
